Goals for 2009-2010
The upcoming 2009-2010 school year will be full of opportunities for ASP to grow. Many of our students will have the opportunity to highlight the latest and most outstanding hazard mitigation research at the Texas APA Conference in Galveston this October, and we anticipate a high turnout for the National Conference to be held in New Orleans in April 2010. In addition to welcoming the newest class of MUP studentsto our organization, we hope to achieve the following goals:
Internship and Job Information Assistance: The officers of the 2009-2010 school year will work hard to put together an excellent career fair, as well as maintain the database of contacts established by the previous officers that will include information on current job and internship availabilities and former student contact information. We hope to add to the listthe firms that have hired our students for the summer of 2009, so that an ongoing tradition of A&M summer interns at their firm can be established.
APA Conference Fundraising: To capitalize on the proximity of both the State and National APA Conferences to Texas A&M, ASP will continue to seek out opportunities to fundraise in order to sponsor students to attend the various planning conferences over the upcoming school year.
International MUP Student Involvement: Study groups, ride shares to the grocery store and social events, multicultural potluck dinners, and growing the global Aggie Network all represent opportunities for ASP with a strong international student presence. Our membership has expressed an eagerness to have more involvement between the organization and international MUP students. The 2009-2010 officers will plan activities and events for the upcoming year with the awareness of how mutually beneficial it can be for everyone to be involved in ASP.
